Hidden Acres Staff

Kasey Higgins, Program Director

Hidden Acres is proud to announce Kasey Higgins as our new Program Director. A life-long horsewoman and a native of Wallingford, CT, Kasey received her Bachelor’s degree in Equine Business Management from Johnson & Wales University in 2013 and then earned her PATH Int’l Therapeutic Riding Instructor’s certification in 2014. Since becoming a PATH certified instructor she has been teaching therapeutic horsemanship lessons to individuals of all ages and abilities throughout the country.

Kasey brings passion, energy and enthusiasm to Hidden Acres as well as experience in various facets of the industry. Prior to returning to Connecticut, she served as the Program Coordinator for a large therapeutic riding center in South Florida and also helped to build a therapeutic riding program in Kauai under the guidance and mentorship of one of the thirty Master Instructors certified by PATH Int’l. She has also successfully mentored several instructors to their PATH certifications and has been the center representative while hosting various workshop and certification events through PATH Int’l.

Kasey is excited about the opportunities Hidden Acres presents to utilize all areas of equine-assisted activities and therapies to its participants. She is looking forward to enhancing and strengthening the Hidden Acres program offerings to the benefit to everyone in the Naugatuck community.


Rebecca Caruso, LCSW, Clinical Program Director

Rebecca joined the Hidden Acres team in 2014 as a PATH Intl. certified therapeutic riding instructor.  She also maintains certification as an equine specialist in mental health and learning.  Rebecca has more than 20 years experience as a licensed clinical social worker with experience working with children, adolescents, families and survivors of trauma and abuse.  After spending a year as the interim Program Director of Hidden Acres, she is now the Clinical Program Director, focusing on serving populations with mental health issues and social/emotional challenges through equine facilitated learning and therapy.  She is also developing Hidden Acres programs for mindfulness, self awareness and self discovery.  Rebecca enjoys horseback riding, cross country skiing and hiking in her time away from the farm.


Barbara DeBisschop, Director of Development

We welcome Barbara DeBisschop to the Hidden Acres staff as our Director of Development.  Barbara comes to Hidden Acres with over 20 years of corporate experience in Marketing, Community Engagement and Relationship Management.   In this role, she will concentrate on grant writing, fundraising, community events and building partnerships to further the Hidden Acres mission and vision for the future.  In addition to her professional background, Barbara is a Life Coach and Reiki Practitioner and conducts workshops in Spirituality, Mandalas and Mosaic Art.  


Amy Coulter, Therapeutic Riding Instructor

Amy Coulter is a PATH certified instructor and a specialist in Equine Facilitated Mental Health and Learning.  Prior to moving to Connecticut in 2007, she was a therapeutic riding instructor at Lancaster County Therapeutic Riding (now Greystone Manor Therapeutic Riding) in Lancaster, PA.  Amy is a retired attorney specializing in school law and special ed.


Nancy Moore, Barn Manager

Nancy Moore is our Hidden Acres Barn Manager and PATH Certified Therapeutic Carriage Driving Instructor. Lifelong horseman with a background in hunters and over 20 years of carriage driving experience. 


Hannah Garceau, Barn Staff



Hannah joined Hidden Acres in 2012 starting as a volunteer while in High School.  She is currently attending Pace University in pursuit of a degree in Business Management.  Hannah is a talented horse-woman and rider and is very involved in the schooling and training of our therapy herd.
