Hidden Acres operates year-round and offers four semesters -Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall. Each semester varies from 8-12 weeks. Sessions are conducted by Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructors and assisted by trained volunteers. Most programs require application paperwork and an assessment prior to participation. The assessment determines which activities would be most suitable for the participant and the resources needed (staff, horse, volunteers, schedule availability). Please contact us for an application packet.
Therapeutic Riding Program – The therapeutic riding program consists of both mounted and un-mounted sessions providing opportunities to develop riding skills and learn how to care for horses. Sessions are 30 minutes and take place the same day and time each week for the length of the semester. This program may be appropriate for children and adults working on physical, educational, sensory and social/emotional goals.
Un-mounted Horsemanship Program – This therapeutic program focuses on students gaining skills related to horse care & handling, and stable care. Sessions follow the same weekly format as the therapeutic riding, except are un-mounted. This program is well suited for children and adults who are unable to, or choose not to ride. A great program for addressing short/long term memory goals, following directions, reinforcing appropriate behaviors and participating in a positive physical activity.
Equine-Assisted Learning Program – These sessions are designed to promote self-awareness, build confidence and reduce stress/anxiety. Appropriate for children, teens, or adults. Sessions may be 30 minute private or small groups for one-two hour sessions. Conducted by an Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Wellness Professional.
