100 year anniversary

Beginning in August 2020, Hidden Acres Farm and Therapeutic Riding Center is celebrating a decade of service as a non-profit Therapeutic Riding Center and the 100th Anniversary of Hidden Acres Farm.

Over 10 years ago Mary and Theron Simons and their family and friends dedicated their energies to building a barn and equine therapeutic riding center to serve special needs children and adults. This anniversary, we are sharing pictures of the work that went into their vision. The barn was built with so much love, care and attention, stick by stick. And you can still feel that love and generosity of heart infused right into the wooden beams when you walk into the barn today. Making it such a special place for all who visit.

We are reaching out today to ask you to join us as we provide support for those in need of our services and further the vision and complete the building of the Center’s Public Meeting Area, handicapped accessible rest rooms and Administrative Offices. They are an addition to the foundation that was constructed next to the Indoor Arena. The addition would include handicapped accessible rest rooms (we currently only have port-a-potties) Multi-use Community Space (for private intakes critical to our participants’ privacy, and visitor/events use) and much needed office space.

Your help is needed to donate, fundraise and challenge others to join our cause during our 100th Anniversary Challenge! Click the Donate and Fundraise button to learn more.

Pictures below show the construction of the barn, its completion, the finished indoor arena and drawings of the planned addition.

In addition, we have to ensure during this difficult time in our nation’s history that we can continue our day to day operations which include our core programs and the care and well-being of our herd of therapeutic horses that deliver community-based programming alongside our dedicated staff.

Our programs include therapeutic riding, equine assisted learning and specialty programs designed to support the special needs of children and adults who have been effected or traumatized by physical, developmental and emotional challenges. The Center offers services at a fraction of their value, and subsidize over 70% of the costs. We rely on the community to help us to continue to deliver free and low-cost services. Our costs have increased dramatically due to the new protocols and requirements of COVID-19 as we limit group size while increasing the number of sessions to counterbalance social distancing requirements. We have also experienced the same loss of revenue (and increased request for services and scholarships) as many businesses and nonprofits in the community due to the pandemic.

We understand the unique financial pressures that are faced by so many of us during these uncertain times. Those who can consider a gift of any size, your help is needed today and truly appreciated. If you itemize your taxes, know that the 2020 CARES Act allows all individual charitable donations to be 100% deductible this year.

Thank you for your kindness and support.
